The EU residence permit legalises the situation of European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) nationals in Spain.

What must I do to obtain an EU residence permit?

Who must complete this process and why? Nationals of EU and EEA member states. The permit is granted initially for 1 year.

What should I do once in Catalonia?

The process can only be initiated in Catalonia. Although it is not a legal requirement to obtain the residence permit, it is recommended that you do so to facilitate identification and to avoid having to carry your passport about with you.

Where should I apply?

Barcelona
To apply for an EU residence permit you will need to make an appointment by phoning 935 209 530 or by sending an email to citaprevia@oue.barcelona.map.es.
You will be given an appointment for the Immigration Office at No. 2, Avenida Marqués d'Argentera, Barcelona.

Tarragona
To apply for an EU residence permit you will need to make an appointment with the Central Government Sub-Delegation in Tarragona by phoning 977999132. You will be given an appointment for the office at No. 3, Plaça Imperial Tarraco, Tarragona. You will also be asked to bring the relevant documentation.

If you wish the Rovira i Virgili University to make the application on your behalf, send an email requesting an appointment with the Central Government Sub-Delegation in Tarragona to the Human Resources and Organisation Department at fina.cabre@urv.net. You will be given an appointment for the Sub-Delegation office at No. 3, Plaça Imperial Tarraco, Tarragona. You will also be asked to bring the relevant documentation.

Lleida
To apply for an EU residence permit you will need to make an appointment by phoning 973 237 850.
You will be given an appointment for the Immigration Office at No. 36, Prat de la Riba, 25004 Lleida. Tel: 973 95 92 30.

Girona
There is no need to arrange an appointment.
Visit the office in person (or send a representative with a written, signed authorisation).

What documentation is required?

A printed copy of Ex-16 (Solicitud de tarjeta en régimen comunitario (EX-16) download).
A valid passport or identity document. If either of these have expired, bring a photocopy of the expired document and your application for renewal.
Three recent passport-size colour photos taken against a white background (photocopies are not acceptable).

 

Procedure for renewing an EU residence permit

  Who must complete this process and why? An initial residence permit may be renewed for up to 5 years, for periods of 1, 2, and 2 years.

What documentation is required?

A printed copy of Ex-16 (Solicitud de tarjeta en régimen comunitario (EX-16) download).
A valid passport or identity document (with photocopies). If either of these have expired, bring a photocopy of the expired document and your application for renewal.

Previous residence permit (original and photocopy).
