Procedure for obtaining a research and studies permit
Who must complete this process and why? Foreigners who wish to carry out unpaid research or training or who wish to take up or extend their studies in any public or private officially recognised teaching or scientific centre in Spain must obtain the corresponding visa allowing him/her to legally remain in Spain.

Barcelona
To apply for a residence permit you will need to make an appointment by phoning 93 520 95 30 or by emailing citaprevia@oue.barcelona.map.es.
You will be given an appointment for the Immigration Office at No. 2, Avenida Marqués d'Argentera, Barcelona.

Tarragona You will need to make an appointment with the Central Government Sub-Delegation in Tarragona by phoning 977999132. You will be given an appointment for the office at No. 3, Plaça Imperial Tarraco, Tarragona. You will also be asked to bring the relevant documentation.
If you wish the Rovira i Virgili University to make the application on your behalf, send an email requesting an appointment with the Central Government Sub-Delegation to the Human Resources and Organisation Department at fina.cabre@urv.net. You will be given an appointment for the Sub-Delegation office at No. 3, Plaça Imperial Tarraco, Tarragona. You will also be asked to bring the relevant documentation.

What documentation is required?
 Application EX-15 ( Autorización de estancia por estudios (EX-15)
Original and photocopy of a valid passport or travel document with the corresponding visa.
2 passport-size photos taken against a white background (photocopies are not acceptable).
Original and photocopy of documentary proof that you have been formally admitted to a public or private officially recognised teaching or scientific centre in Spain, in order to carry out unpaid research or training or to take up or extend studies. This document should indicate the timetable for a course of studies or research of at least three months in duration and should describe the syllabus, research or training programme to be implemented.
Original and photocopy of documentary proof that you have the financial means to pay for the course, to support yourself during your stay in Spain, and to return to your own country.
Note that it may be necessary to supply documents that fully identify the educational or scientific centre.

Renewal of a research and studies permit
Who must complete this process and why? A research and studies permit will be renewed annually provided the applicant complies with the requirements of the corresponding legislation. The renewal application must be made within the 60 days prior to expiry of the existing permit. The application may be made at any official registration office.

Original and 2 photocopies of a valid passport or travel document.
Original and photocopy of your existing research and studies permit.
Original and photocopy of documentary proof that you have been formally admitted to a public or private officially recognised teaching or scientific centre in Spain, in order to carry out unpaid research or training or to take up or extend studies. Original and photocopy of documentary proof that you have the financial means to pay for the course, to support yourself during your stay in Spain, and to return to your own country.
Certificate issued by the educational centre that confirms that you have passed your examinations and/or meet any other requirements necessary to be able to continue your studies.
